Trying to Save 2,000 Before Ninth Grade

Published:

I set myself a small goal: save up 2,000 yuan before ninth grade starts.

It doesn’t feel too hard. I’ve already got more than 800 saved, plus a little over 100 in WeChat, so I’m basically at 900 already.

Every morning, my parents give me 20 yuan for breakfast. If I keep things tight and skip spending it, that’s a steady 20 yuan a day. On top of that, I also get 50 and 70 yuan in monthly allowance.

Here’s what I have right now:

  • Cash: 837.00
  • WeChat: 100.59
  • Alipay: 5.19
  • Total: 944.78 yuan

That means I’m still 1,055.22 yuan away from my goal.

As of today, April 11, there are 13 workdays left this month.

By the end of the month, I can still get:

  • 20 × 13 = 260

So that brings the total to:

  • 944.78 + 260.00 = 970.78

Then add the monthly allowance of 120 yuan:

  • 970.78 + 120 = 1090.78

At that point, I’d still be short by 909.22 yuan.

Using the same logic, my income for May would be 560 yuan, which would bring the total up to 1650.78 yuan.

That would leave a gap of 349.22 yuan.

If I keep going at about 280 yuan a month after that, then I should be able to hit 2,000 sometime around July.

Of course, that’s the most pessimistic version of the plan. Maybe one day I’ll suddenly get some unexpected money.

Anyway, 2,000 yuan is 2,000 yuan. If I keep saving bit by bit, I’ll get there.
